However, in this article I examine a wide range of sources and conclude that in the Edo period it was not only men who appriciated shunga, but that women were also customers. Furthur, there clearly was interest in shunga from the young and old, regardless of status or location, and included commoners in the cities, farmers, as well as first-class intellectuals and powerful daimyos. The sources clearly show the wide range of interest in shunga in the period. We can also see that shunga was not simply for stimulating sexual desire, but aimed to depict a wide range of aspects of sexuality.\nIn particular, popular ukiyo-e shunga was widely available through the extensive network system of itinerant lending-libraries (kashihon'ya). Book-lenders would carry new and reprinted shunga books and travel from house to house, and lend them for a relatively inexpensive fee. They were known to alwais have the most up-to-date shunga books and print series, in response to customer demand. It is thought that in most cases it was the women of the house who received the orders from these book-lenders, as they did for other deliveries, and therefore, we can imagine with confidence that shunga works often first passed through women's hands.","subitem_description_language":"en","subitem_description_type":"Abstract"}]},"item_5_identifier_registration":{"attribute_name":"ID登録","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_identifier_reg_text":"10.15055/00000160","subitem_identifier_reg_type":"JaLC"}]},"item_5_publisher_33":{"attribute_name":"出版者","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_publisher":"International Research Center for Japanese Studies","subitem_publisher_language":"en"}]},"item_5_source_id_10":{"attribute_name":"書誌レコードID","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_source_identifier":"AA10759175","subitem_source_identifier_type":"NCID"}]},"item_5_source_id_8":{"attribute_name":"ISSN","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_source_identifier":"09150986","subitem_source_identifier_type":"PISSN"},{"subitem_source_identifier":"24343129","subitem_source_identifier_type":"EISSN"}]},"item_5_text_62":{"attribute_name":"特集号タイトル","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_text_language":"en","subitem_text_value":"Shunga: Sex and Humor in Japanese Art and Literature"}]},"item_5_version_type_16":{"attribute_name":"著者版フラグ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_version_resource":"http://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85","subitem_version_type":"VoR"}]},"item_creator":{"attribute_name":"著者","attribute_type":"creator","attribute_value_mlt":[{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"HAYAKAWA, Monta","creatorNameLang":"en"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{"nameIdentifier":"21207","nameIdentifierScheme":"WEKO"}]}]},"item_files":{"attribute_name":"ファイル情報","attribute_type":"file","attribute_value_mlt":[{"accessrole":"open_date","date":[{"dateType":"Available","dateValue":"2015-11-11"}],"displaytype":"detail","filename":"JN2602.pdf","filesize":[{"value":"8.3 MB"}],"format":"application/pdf","licensetype":"license_note","mimetype":"application/pdf","url":{"label":"JN2602.pdf","objectType":"fulltext","url":"https://nichibun.repo.nii.ac.jp/record/166/files/JN2602.pdf"},"version_id":"91038978-e2b3-4225-98ef-501781666f5c"}]},"item_keyword":{"attribute_name":"キーワード","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_subject":"SHUNGA","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"LENDING LIBRARIES","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"KASHIHON'YA","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"WEDDING TROUSSEAU","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"SHUNGA AS TALISMAN","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"GASEN","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"OGYU SORAI","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"OTA NANPO","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"KAWAJI TOSHIAKIRA","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"MORI OGAI","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"}]},"item_language":{"attribute_name":"言語","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_language":"eng"}]},"item_resource_type":{"attribute_name":"資源タイプ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"resourcetype":"departmental bulletin paper","resourceuri":"http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501"}]},"item_title":"<1) RECEPTION>Who Were the Audiences for Shunga?","item_titles":{"attribute_name":"タイトル","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_title":"<1) RECEPTION>Who Were the Audiences for Shunga?","subitem_title_language":"en"}]},"item_type_id":"5","owner":"30","path":["166"],"pubdate":{"attribute_name":"PubDate","attribute_value":"2013-12-12"},"publish_date":"2013-12-12","publish_status":"0","recid":"166","relation_version_is_last":true,"title":["<1) RECEPTION>Who Were the Audiences for Shunga?"],"weko_creator_id":"30","weko_shared_id":-1},"updated":"2023-10-18T07:28:51.719614+00:00"}
