It analyses emendations on the extant manuscripts to show how these two men held different views on the readership of their commentary, the question of esoteric transmissions, the designation of the emperorship, and the comparison of the novel with the contemporary world. Michishige was concerned with the unique role and status of the emperor and with the novel as representing an unsullied court culture. Banzan was a universalist, concerned to interpret the novel in terms that transcended its historical origins and were relevant to his present. The article approaches this subject first though a sketch of Kyoto society at the time, concentrating on the bakufu-imperial court relationship and the position of Confucian scholars and teachers such as Itō Jinsai. It then proceeds to a summary of the procedures used in the joint project and identifies the main areas of differing opinions between Banzan and Michishige.","subitem_description_language":"en","subitem_description_type":"Abstract"}]},"item_5_full_name_3":{"attribute_name":"著者別名","attribute_value_mlt":[{"nameIdentifiers":[{"nameIdentifier":"21104","nameIdentifierScheme":"WEKO"}],"names":[{"name":"マックマレン, ジェームス","nameLang":"ja"}]}]},"item_5_identifier_registration":{"attribute_name":"ID登録","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_identifier_reg_text":"10.15055/00000211","subitem_identifier_reg_type":"JaLC"}]},"item_5_publisher_33":{"attribute_name":"出版者","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_publisher":"International Research Center for Japanese Studies","subitem_publisher_language":"en"}]},"item_5_source_id_10":{"attribute_name":"書誌レコードID","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_source_identifier":"AA10759175","subitem_source_identifier_type":"NCID"}]},"item_5_source_id_8":{"attribute_name":"ISSN","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_source_identifier":"09150986","subitem_source_identifier_type":"PISSN"},{"subitem_source_identifier":"24343129","subitem_source_identifier_type":"EISSN"}]},"item_5_version_type_16":{"attribute_name":"著者版フラグ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_version_resource":"http://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85","subitem_version_type":"VoR"}]},"item_creator":{"attribute_name":"著者","attribute_type":"creator","attribute_value_mlt":[{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"McMULLEN, James","creatorNameLang":"en"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{"nameIdentifier":"21103","nameIdentifierScheme":"WEKO"}]}]},"item_files":{"attribute_name":"ファイル情報","attribute_type":"file","attribute_value_mlt":[{"accessrole":"open_date","date":[{"dateType":"Available","dateValue":"2015-11-11"}],"displaytype":"detail","filename":"JN2101.pdf","filesize":[{"value":"32.5 MB"}],"format":"application/pdf","licensetype":"license_note","mimetype":"application/pdf","url":{"label":"JN2101.pdf","objectType":"fulltext","url":"https://nichibun.repo.nii.ac.jp/record/217/files/JN2101.pdf"},"version_id":"50b31f30-60a1-4905-af85-e9131febcf93"}]},"item_keyword":{"attribute_name":"キーワード","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_subject":"TOKUGAWA HISTORY","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"KYOTO","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"IMPERIAL COURT","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"BAKUFU","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"IMPERIAL LINEAGE","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"KUGE","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"JUSHA","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"NAKANOIN MICHISHIGE","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"KUMAZAWA BANZAN","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"COMMENTARY ON THE TALE OF GENJI","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"}]},"item_language":{"attribute_name":"言語","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_language":"eng"}]},"item_resource_type":{"attribute_name":"資源タイプ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"resourcetype":"departmental bulletin paper","resourceuri":"http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501"}]},"item_title":"Courtier and Confucian in Seventeenth-Century Japan : A Dialogue on the Tale of Genji between Nakanoin Michishige and Kumazawa Banzan","item_titles":{"attribute_name":"タイトル","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_title":"Courtier and Confucian in Seventeenth-Century Japan : A Dialogue on the Tale of Genji between Nakanoin Michishige and Kumazawa Banzan","subitem_title_language":"en"}]},"item_type_id":"5","owner":"30","path":["171"],"pubdate":{"attribute_name":"PubDate","attribute_value":"2012-03-11"},"publish_date":"2012-03-11","publish_status":"0","recid":"217","relation_version_is_last":true,"title":["Courtier and Confucian in Seventeenth-Century Japan : A Dialogue on the Tale of Genji between Nakanoin Michishige and Kumazawa Banzan"],"weko_creator_id":"30","weko_shared_id":-1},"updated":"2024-01-05T07:24:54.659412+00:00"}
